The planetary gears looked exactly like those Playdo machines that squeeze out the Playdo in a star pattern.

I shopped on the internet, and new planetary gearsets were $$$$ hundreds. So I got another 208 from FN Jeeps in the Springs for $150, and tore that one apart. I used the best from both cases to make 1.

I found that rebuilding a 208 is fairly straightforward. It took some trying to get it to seal, but I got some help on this forum and did it right: Really good gasket sealer, finger tight until it sets, then moderate tightening. No more drips.

I figure the teenager had the transfer case in 4wd on dry pavement while he was successfully blowing up the engine.

I removed the side rear window glass and found a couple little rust spots under the weatherstipping.

Since I don't trust my spot welding skills to put in a new channel, I put in a little plug weld and filled the hole with lead. Shouldn't be a problem anymore.

I put a little POR-15 silver on top of that, then I'll epoxy prime/seal over that.

I did a thread about fixing the heater box.

My heater box was busted. I notice that's a common condition on these things. It must be mandatory when you pull the engine to bust the heater box. I even spent a 1/2 hr at the junkyard trying to get one out of another vehicle, when I happened to look down and that one was busted too! Lots of guys just throw some

I also cleared 6" of leaves & debris out of the side vents.

I found this what I assumed to be a authorized Jeep wrench for the luggage rack under the dash.

I think Crist Clapper is gonna want one of these.....bet he doesn't have one

When I went to pull the body off, I did find that the caged nuts were rusty and spun in the cages. So I had to cut out around the rear ones and under the drivers seat to get access to the nuts.

I made new "cages" since I couldn't find any, and welded them back in over the old cleaned up nuts.....

I built a body dolly to set the body on.....

I bought a HF hoist awhile back. But my I-beam in my shop is boxed in on the sides, so I couldn't use it as a trolley. I had to fix it in place. But man, is that thing handy. I couldn't have gotten this far without it. I've used it for everything.

I pulled the body with it.

I also use it to roll the chassis and the body in & out of the garage. I put a anchor with a roller pulley in the floor directly below the hoist, and turn it into a winch. It works great.

I also want to give a round of applause to those of you who do all this without a nice garage. Some of you without a garage at all. I've been reading your threads, and I'm impressed.

I finally got my dream garage, 24x36, and I don't ever want to go back.
You guys do great work without one. Even mine got too small quick. But I won't complain.
