    Front Disc Brake Conversion 68 J 3000

Im ready to get rid of my old drum brakes on the front and replace with discs. Not looking to spend a pile of money, and Im looking for a bolt right up setup. Anyone care to share their ideas?

BJ's has a kit and if you search, you will find a thread with a parts list, if you want to gather the parts yourself.

              Link didn't show up.

My rotors are 2.8" high and they touch the caliper bracket. AZ part #5109 is listed as 56mm or 2.2" high. Pricey. Tried Ford and Dodge rotors and spindles, outer shafts would not line up U-joint with kingpin. Currently looking at newer Dodge rotors to fit over flange, not behind it.

are you going to just swap the outers, or the whole D44?

No, I think I will just go with the outers and keep the original axle and bolt pattern.

                          Master??

The article doesn't mention a front disc master cylinder upgrade. I'm considering using a '74-'80 I think J-truck piece for my '69 upgrade, requiring converting to a pedal mounted brake switch. Does this sound right???

I would think a master from a later model (mid 70's) FSJ with disc brakes would work fine for your app.

Do you have manual or power brakes right now?

Also, you don't need to use a pedal mounted switch. You can plumb in a hydraulic switch in the brake lines and re-use your original plug.

That switch you see on your newer brake pedal isnt a brake switch, its the kick down for the TH400. common mistake.
