In trouble - j10 sportside 401 - stuck in pueblo colorado - need help

Hi everyone! We are currently on a road trip from coast to coast with an 80 j10 sportside with 401. Just as we were driving, the jeep stalled and lost power. Engine had run hot but never over 210 so we stopped. Basically the manual transmission (nv4500) is on its end. We need to get to los angeles before next week so we got a long drive to go!

I don't know what to do. Car is parked safely but i can't drive it to los angeles in this condition! 3 options:
    - find a tranny and do a quick swap. I have no idea where to start?
    - dolly or trail it behind my buddies scrambler but uhaul won't allow me to do this because the scrambler doesn't have a hard top nor is it heavy enough to transport the j10!
    - sell the j10 very fast. Expect for the tranny, its a great vehicle. 401 just rebuilt, dana 44 front rear, mallory distrib, new windshield, 2 inch lift, sportside, no rust, brand new winch, tom woods shafts... And the list goes on... Needs a paintjob and a new tranny and it can be Wooow...

If anyone is around, interested or can help... I'd really really appreciate it... But it needs to go quick as we need to move on... With, or without the jtruck... Snif snif.

    Thanks for your help

Sorry to hear! My dad didn't make it to the OUray invasion this year because his Wag died around Dodge City.

I would try to find a replacement and hit the road.

It's a bit of a drive, but maybe that would work for you. Maybe there are some Colorodans that can help you better.

Don't give up or sell it! If it was me, I'd try to find another tranny for sale and swap it out. One possibility is finding one for sale a bit further along your route and have the Scrambler tow it a bit or rent a U-Haul (or similar) truck and trailer to get it to where you can replace the transmission.

      Good luck!

Go over to Canyon Truck Parts in Canon , CO. Just off to your west 20 or 30 miles. Guys there are great to deal with and I'm sure can set you up with a tranny right away. They have lots and lots of trucks there.
Getting it installed...welll..I'm not sure about that one. Maybe they can do that as well. They did have a big garage there.
They were a great find when I totalled my J20 a few years ago south of there.

Check them out as soon as you can. I think I was there on a Saturday when I was stranded.

I found the number there 719-275-5236. An old fellow named Bud helped me out. See if that still works..

Dang Dan, I'm not all that far west of you, but can't think of how to help. My Wagoneer's down, so I can't tow, don't have or know of a spare trans, and lack cash to buy you out. I understand that there's a pretty good pick-n-pull yard in Pueblo. Jason (COLOFIREMAN) knows about it -- maybe PM him?

There is a U-Pull here in Colorado Springs that has a few FSJ in it, maybe get a 727 out of one just to get you home.

                      Dan,
I could take my trailer, go get it, and haul it back to Denton. We can store it for a while, out where you got the bumper, until you decide what to do with it.
Will do the haul for my ACTUAL cost of fuel, motel, and meals. however, this might be more than you want to spend on it. Could head that way this Mon. or Tues.
Let me know if I can help.
