    60th Edition J10

A buddy of my brother just totalled a 2001 60th anniversary XJ with a 4.0 and a 5spd. He got it from the insurance company for less than it takes to fill the Waggy up at the pump. I've been dreaming of a fuel injected 4.0 and 5spd tranny in my 82 J10 but my brother mentioned the dash.

That isn't the exact vehicle, you get the point. Just imagine, fuel injection, AC, airbags(probably won't hook 'em up), trip odometer, overhead console and the likes. I wonder if there's a way to do late model style door panels on there too...It's gonna be sweet!

Oh yeah. anyone ever done this before?

You know it's bad when your car's on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!

Yeah, it was a ZJ interior....

      He did some AMAZING work!!

Would you really want a 4.0 powered J10? Its a great motor, but I think you would be better off with a couple more cylinders for your truck.

Yeah, yeah, I know that there are plenty of members who have 6 cyl FSJs, and love them, but they didnt work as hard as you will have to purposely put one in. After that much work, I would think that you would want MORE POWER..

      Just a thought...

Well, his J has a 258 in it already so it would be a real easy swap and probably better gas milage along with MORE POWER

DMNTXN77-I'm planning on having the J10 as a DD or something but not too far from stock. Im also shooting for atleast 22MPG and running E-85. As for power, that's what the 401 in the Waggy is for

My TJ's 4.0L with 3.07 gearing and stock tires barely got 16mpg.

Never ran the XJ on E85, just straight gas. I want to run the J10 on it as I can get it for under $1/gallon. The XJ weighed in at 3800 dry and my J10 was 4000 dry. Heck, I'll be happy if I can pull 16MPG's out of it. Ain't a guy allowed to dream?

My 00 Wrangler got a pretty consistant 21mpg with the 4.0L, 5 speed, 3.73 gears on 30X9.5X15's. It supposedly weighed just under 4,000lbs also and had the aerodynamics of a Kleenex box. The 5 speed makes a big difference though, my buddy had basically the same Jeep except with an auto and he only got 13-14mpg. So I think you should be able to get about 20mpg pretty easily with the 4.0 and a 5 speed in your J-10, probably less on ethanol though.

Heck I've even toyed with the idea of going to the 4.0L and a 5 speed in my Grand, the 4.0L I had was listed at 181hp and 222 ft/lbs or torque, while the 5.9L in my 86 is only listed at 129hp and 245 ft/lbs of torque. So in the end I'd have about the same amount of power, with alot better fuel economy, and going from a 4.2 to a 4.0 you'd be gaining quite abit. But if you want more power you could always build a stroker out of your 4.2 and 4.0 and get upwards of 300hp is you really work it over. But I would think a stock 4.0L would be plenty.
There are those that have and those that will.

1986 Grand Wagoneer, BONE STOCK just the way I like em!
