    removing QT from 78 Cherokee

I am struggling a bit with removing the transfer case....I am not sure I am removing the right bolts.....I have disconnected the vacuum hoses, 4lo lever, light switch, speedo cable...I then supported the TC with a floor jack and removed the support.

my question is: which bolts seperate the Tc from the AT?

Ihave started to remove the 6 bolts that take a 9/16 wrench, but am not that confident that they are the right ones.

any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Those 6 bolts remove the adapter plate from the back of the TH400. Leave those in and remove the 4 bolts on the rearward side of the same adapter plate that hold the QT on the adapter... they are a little more spaced out but those be the ones to remove (2 on top - 2 on bottom). Leave the adapter plate connected to the tranny as to keep your tranny supported my the X-member mount at the bottom of the adapter plate. Might want to drain your fluid if you haven't already... less weight to worry about and plus you will spill it.

aaahhh...I now recognize my first mistake, I thought the support was for the TC not the trans! I have serious Trans fluid leaks on both sides of the adapter plate, should I tackle that job after getting the TC out?

Note: fluid was previously drained...oh while on that subject, why the heck is there SOOOOOO many inspection holes/drain plugs of various sizes on the QT?

      Thanks again Bro!

Drop the QT 1st, then worry about the adapter plate... much ezr that way.

Never really paid much attention to inspection holes... only ones I used were the one for the chain inspection, fill plug for the QT main case and I believe one on the low range unit...hmmmm..... I'll get back to you on that... working on my spare setup in the back yard (hopefully never needed)...
