i ran studs from summit in mine. i was using 1.7 rockers with 7/16 studs. simple screw in and i never heard them.

Similiar question so i am going to hijack my own thread.
      A) Did your 1.7's fit under stock valve covers?
      B) I can just get the standard SBC studs like these, right?
      Summit branded 3/8" SBC studs
      C) I have read my heads (casting #3216090-1, early 401 heads with screw in studs) don't need guide plates because the opening in the head acts as the pushrod guide (I looked down the hole and it's a slot and my rods have a clean spot where they pass through). Anyone want to confirm I don't need guide plates?

yeah, sbc studs generally work. and you don't need guide plates. you MUST run hardened pushrods however.

pretty sure the 1.7's would not clear stock covers, but i really don't recall.

I ended up buying ARP 100-7101 studs (7/16 adjustable off a recommendation from Harland Sharp), Harland Sharp S4004-7 (1.6:1 Rollers) which yielded me a pushrod length of 8.125. Just ordered Comp Cams Chromoly push rods from Amazon.

            Good morning.

Is this motor going in with an auto trans?
And what gear ratio size tire?
            Also, what type/size of carb

I'm kinda trying to decide on either the Comp 268 and a MTA-1 (AMC-360 TH400)
Intake gaskets need attention, so I'd be half way there anyway..

            Thanks

Motor is installed in front of an auto trans (stock TH400 with a mild shift kit and stock converter)
Stock 3.55's (i think... Might be 3.73, whatever came stock in a 79 Cherokee Chief with a 360).
Tires are 285/75-16 (about 32.5" tall)
Running a GM DIY Throttle body injection with computer controlled timing.

Runs pretty well, idle is pretty smooth. I have about 5 miles on the motor so far and am still tuning the EFI. My build thread (link in my signature has more details).

Hhhmmm. Makes me want to give that TBI another shot.
Got a few parts off of a rental truck with a big block. But the Throttle body has some huge solenoids/sensors on it that doesn't look 'normal'

So, with that 268 she's idling smooth and no vacuum problems with the IAC when cold?

Thanks for chatting with me to.

                  Mine works..

I had my heads surfaced, ran the 268 cam and just ordered original size pushrods, runs good so far w/ stock rockers.
