It has always just drove good, rebuilt springs with stuff I had, Bilstien shocks, 265/85/16 tires on stock rims. It had manual steering when I got it, pulled steering box out of a J-20 I'd picked up for parts. Truck came out of Texas with the buick hanging in it, nothing else. I put drivetrain in it out of a low mile very rusty 76 Chero at first, then did the Olds using a buick bell to the T-18. It had some wide white spoke 15s on it when acquired, drove like crap till I put the 16s on it.. I do know it's very important that wheel dish matches tire height, a line drawn though ball joints/kingpins hits the ground in the center of the tire where it hits the ground, something I pay attention to on all my builds. Also the wide set/spacing of the springs on the early J-trucks in front I believe helps em corner flatter, I suppose that's why a stabilizer bar was used on later vehicles, my 74 J-20 doesn't have the stabilizer bar and it just don't corner as flat as my 70. Good luck on your J-20 build, looking good.

If all goes well, we can toast to accidental successes.

I'm convinced I'm just too dumb to know that I can't restore this old truck...

                    Yup

The bed in the foto is a 7' bed I found in Wi thru a member here...just happened to be the same color.
The original 8" bed is a donor now....BTW the rear flares from the donor will be available and they are not too bad either...just sayin'

                        little further

few more fotos on the progress...pretty soon the rockers will arrive and , once welded in the cab can come off. and new (to me) doors will be installed.

The doors to be removed, will supply the window framing in the rear , stationary glass. and then an OEM slider in the back.

Is the roof skin fabed or grafted from something else?

I found a complete roof then cut out the middle for the 13" extension. There is a slight taper to the roof line..so it worked out pretty well.
The brow and back section of the donor roof are available to anyone that would want it.
