I did the same thing with 8 bolt wheels. IIRC you get 3.5" BS out of those. My home welded ones run true enough on the road as well. There is a nice lip in the wheel on 8-bolt to press it againt for trueness.
What exact router bit did you use on your PVC inners? I did something similar on one insert so far with a grinder.
What exact size pipe is it, i.e. 16" SDR 18....? The PVC I scrounged up seems to be a 1/16" too small to fit over the inner wheel on the 8-bolts. I have to persuade it on and off.
Mine do not come off easliy either, it is such a tight fit that if you do not drill some holes in the PVC no air will get into the tire area.
PVC was 16" water main, I thought it was too small too but all the research I did said I had the right stuff.
The bit was a 1/2" round over like this.

So you put a round corner on it instead of the magic 13 degrees, or whatever that number is. (can't remeber without looking it up)
Holding air well? Without my inserts I may have 1lb leak over 1 month.
Yeah it is round, no magic 13 degress. Holding air great, found the key is getting everything clean with soapy water. I cleaned all mating surfaces with sponge and soaked the o-rings in the same bucket with warm soapy water.

Just for reference. This past weekend I cut some PVC inserts the same 6.75" width for my 8-Bolt H1's with 42" Rockers and it seems to be about the perfect width.
Going to River Rock this coming weekend, I will try and get some more pics of how good the tires look.
