New from Wyoming with a 79 Wagoneer

Hello. New from NW Wyoming. I just purchased a pretty solid 79 Wagoneer. Great runner! I of course already took out the interior and exposed the floors. As expected, I will be replacing the floor pans in the front. The cargo area floors are flawless. The purpose of this build will be for trails and hunting, So I will be installing a full vinyl floor instead of carpet. She will be getting a 3" lift and custom roof rack w/ a small winch attached to pull up my hunt kills. Some may not like this, but the faux wood paneling will be removed for good. Here's a link with some pics before I do anything.

Welcome. 79 was the highest production year for FSJs. Seems like a ton of them still out there. I always like the clean look of a Waggy busted out of the wood crate.

How does one know which transmission (THM400, A727 or the A999) or which transfer case I have (Borg or Dana)?

Nice Wagoneer! Wow, I wish that I didn't live in the rust belt

I had a 79 four door Cherokee S that I bought brand new for $9750 in Oct 1978. My first vehicle.
Your jeep should have the turbo 400 with the Borg Warner Quadra trac transfer case.

64 US Army CJ3B (frame off restoration)
66 M416 trailer (original "nice" condition)

Thanks. I figured since I have the low range lever on the floor, that I must have the BW1339 transfer case.

Ya. Love the radio/CB combo. I have to figure out how to repair it. It seams to power up, but neither the radio or CB seem to operate. Have have yet to dig into it.

                  Welcome!
Nice color. Looks like "9A" Alpaca Brown metallic. It appears to be a Limited edition with the glove box badge and the wood paneling.

Your transmission is a TH400. And the transfer case is a Borg Warner 1339 QuadraTrac

I have similar problems with my CB/AM/FM radio. It doesn't power on at all. And I ditched the inoperative analog clock and replaced it with a delete plate. I hope to find a digital clock soon. I bought one off ebay and the chump that sold it to me failed to say it didn't work.

Nice. And welcome. 79 was a good year for FSJ's. Pretty as-is reliable stock rigs if maintained properly as opposed to modifying/improving(?) them. FSJ floor pans rust out from the inside-out from the painted floor getting wet and not drying out so I personally would NOT install a vinyl or rubber floor covering over new floors. The floors/carpet/backing needs air circulation to dry out. All the vinyl does is trap moisture. Soggy/wet carpet never ends well long term. I'm no expert but the exterior trim looks almost like a newer (GW era) trim package. Though I don't endorse many mech modes as improvements, I strongly support losing the plastic fake packing crate.

Welcome to the boards. Nice looking ride and a good year too. I second the not using vinyl, but if you do, consider using POR-15 or a similar product to seal up the front floors after you replace (and maybe even the cargo area to keep it protected too). See you around the boards!

If you still want one of the CB/FM/AM combo. I’m fairly certain I saw one in the Watson and Son FSJ Salvage yard in Pinetown NC.

For some reason just now able to see the pics... Man your beast is in a lot better shape than mine! Kudos on that CB too... I'd probably cut off a toe for a working original CB/AM/FM.
