Finally approved! New Wagoneer in Washington

Hey everybody! Been lurking about a month now waiting for my membership approval. Just bought a 1978 Wagoneer for the old lady to replace her 1998 explorer. We're both in love with our new Jeep. I build hot rods for a living and daily drive a 1931 Ford. This is our new family car. We have 2 90 pound black labs and are planning on a kid or two in the near future...

Our truck is very original and powered by a 401. It does need a few repairs. Our goal is a functioning daily driver while we semi-restore it. I currently am trying to get the heat working and the 4x4 working. I already got the tailgate working and unstuck and have fixed the wipers. Along with a few other other minor repairs.

Anyways. Just wanted to say hi! Happy to finally be here and able to post.

Welcome, 78 was a good year. If you're having issues with both the QT and the heat/def functions... I'd highly suspect the vacuum system that controls both. Prolly just old rotted hoses.
If interested in a good condition AMC factory TSM for 78, PM me.

Anybody who drives a Model A knows full well that older vehicles were not built with crash safety in mind, so consider that if you are planning on making this the family truckster. But they are cool, especially with the 401. Welcome!

High quality junk here: intro thread and slow build thread

Did you know? Willys is just Willis spelled differently, but pronounced the same. Neither Willy nor his apostrophe are involved.

        Welcome!

I agree Joe, I am also getting my 4X4 and Heat to work and large portion of that has been vacuum hoses. (and vacuum leaks on the engine) but you know all of that with the hot rods you build.

Cant wait to see this come along!

PO swapped in a 360, soon to be a 401 again!
        "Soon" is a relative term.
Cracked cylinder put a hurt on me + bad connecting rods.

Super sweet plan and a great rig to do it, too. I love the 78 Wago grill. Looking forward to a build thread and some pictures. there are some quality folks up there by you in Seattle and plenty of parts.
