So what are their reasons for closing the trails? Those are two GREAT trails!

Hello, Im Steve, a long time FSJeeper and this might be my first time speaking up.
Anyways there is always a ton of spilled oil and broken parts left on the trails. The whole area is part of the Rio Grande watershed and they want to keep the water as clean as possible.

Seems like some awareness needs to be brought up to wheelers out there. Thought it was common sense to clean up your spills, but i guess common sense isnt that common.

For years there have always been the back and forth between the BLM and organizations like the SW4WDA. The sad thing is its mostly locals that leave the trails trashy

thanks for the heads up steve. i thought it might have been due to the erosion problem on the the 2 trails.been going over there wheeling since 2003
and the entrance to pats has gotten "good in our favor" but bad from an environmental stand point.

dang i can wait to go! might go play today out west of town in the canyons here if the wind dont get up to bad

My dad has a little ranch about 5 miles south box canyon so i basically grew up in that area. i havent been out there in a few years but recently i took the '91 Grand out there for its maiden voyage and was shocked at the roads. I used to go back there in a Pinto, it was very rough even for the Grand.

I still see lots and lots of border patrol out there in 4x4 fords... im thinking they are intentionally keeping the roads extra rough to try to keep smugglers out of the whole area.

It is that way in Farmington too. The local clubs try to keep up with it just the same...
