I thought I was done with my tailgate. Now I have to open it up and do the motor/gear drive like you did.
Fantastic write up! How does it sound now that it is all rebuilt and cleaned up?Chuck McTruck 71 J4000

I have a tailgate alignment issue and am not certain if its correctable or if the body is tweaked. You can see the gap below on the left. It is larger than the right hand gap. It causes the passenger side of the rear glass to rub on the inner frame.
Thoughts?!?!

Seemed like a good idea at the time...

Yep. Hinge to body bolts give you left/right adjustment and in/out of the bottom of the tailgate.
Hinge to tailgate bolts give you left/right tilt and up/down. Maybe some left/right movement also.
The pic looks like you need to loosen the hinge to body bolts and shift the whole shebang to the left. You have to loosen the bolts that clamp the springs tool.Sic friatur crustulum

I inspect the tailgate window safety switch, turn the key manically left and right......NOTHING....No glass movement.
The rear window works fine with the dash mounted switch.
So now I will completely disassemble everything AGAIN from the tailgate to access the window switch. I have another one somewhere in the garage.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a donor tailgate.
Pretty sure without this thread I would have re-used the motor without opening it up to inspect. Sure enough, it looked exactly like yours. After a quick trip to Lowes, it's good to go.Mike

You are the Ansel Adams of post photos!
I dipped into my tailgate long enough to replace the switch (BJ's kit is AWESOME), and saved dealing with my worn out pins, worn out channels for another day. Thanks for posting what you did, will reference this when I want to finish the job.

Great news. Prior to dissassembling the tailgate, I checked for power on the wire to the panel switch . My Digital multimeter revealed 0 VDC. I isolated the issue to the 30 amp fuse (circuit breaker?) in the fuse panel. So relieved I did not have dive back into the tailgate.
