I'd recommend starting a new thread when something is so old, otherwise everyone has to slog thru all the old posts to get to yours.

My resto thread (see my sig) has some pics somewhere of exactly what I found on mine (bad lifter), sounds like yours could be similar. I did it the cheap and easy way, but cam may still be bad, and if so I'm sure it'll eventually let me know, but for now it runs pretty good.

MysticRob nailed it. Concur with all he said.

If you do have to replace a lifter, you DO have to pull the intake manifold but not the heads. I just replaced on this weekend. If you do replace a lifter(s), you should do a break in (20 mins at 2000RPM).

last time I replaced a bad lifter, I did all of them... and never bothered to do a break in... the engine is still running after 100kmiles.

Regarding Hyd' roller lifters, Im getting mixed information on whether the Dodge lifters work, other OEM lifters fit or if you have to use the $500 set for an AMC. Any information? It hurts me to think that I can get Dodge/Ford/Chevy rollers for <$200 but AMC sets are $480

Not sure about roller lifters, but reg hydraulic lifters less than $5 ea. from several sources for jeep.
I don't know if rollers have that much advantage??
            Easy doesn't do it!!

roller lifters have to go on a roller cam.

May be thinking of roller rockers not lifters?
