    Need advice/affirmation

I think that I am taking the plunge and buying a set of CUCV axles.

    14bolt with detroit/Dana 60 open 4.56 gears

The guy wants 1650 for the set. I know that they can be had cheaper. (not by much around here and I've seen a set go for over 2K)

Since these are local there will be no shipping etc. to deal with. plus with 4.56 gears I probably won't be re-doing those.

Should I go for it or hold out? He was asking 1800.

Anyone think I'll have buyers remorse at this price?

My school of thought may differ from alot of peoples but I say buy them. There are people on this forum that have gotten absolutely beautiful FSJs for free or practically for free, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't pay for a good one if you really want one. I believe that you should pay what you are willing to pay for them, not what others have gotten them for.

    For instance:

I know that M715 axles can be had for $200 a set. There's a set on M715zone for that much right now, but I'm gonna buy a set for $500 because they are close, I know and trust the seller, and while I know that they are not as strong as CUCV axles (some would argue that the D60 front isn't any stronger than a 44), I honestly think that from what I've seen, they're stronger that the axles I have now and since it would cost me around $500 to fix my 44s in my J-10 anyways, I'm getting them. That's the way I look at, I hope this helps you make your decision.

Go for it... $1500 is about the best you will see...

Now.. if they are INDEED CUCV axles.. the 14FF should be locked already.... they all are...from what I have seen... the D60 is usually open with an occasional powerlok up front.. but rare.

snatch em up.... I paid $300 shipping for mine....

I'd but the CUCV axles if it were me... but I guess I'm biased because I own a k-30 (which is baddass btw)

Prolly about right. Like Todd stated, the 14ff will have a detroit in there, so thats another good thing. And if you have ever pulled a 14ff shaft, you'll know what beef is! They are noticiably bigger than the dana 60. Go for it, and then wheel the snot out of it. Dennis

Well, if you want 4.56 gears then you're already ahead of the game with CUCV plus locked in the rear. Around here you're not likely to find a set of single wheel axles for less than $1200, then add a detroit and you're a shade under $1600, but you're more likely to have 4.10s instead of 4.56s. If you want a set of 4.10s I know where to find them, but 1650 isn't bad for a set of CUCV axles in this area.

Sounds good with no shipping charges, go for it.
Will those springs you got work with this setup?

                        Well,

I've got more money than sense and am going to give the guy a deposit today.

I think that I am going to put them under the J10 frame (Jim I'll use your springs in the front since I don't want to be SOA with 4" lift springs) Crossover steering seems pretty straight forward with stuff from ORD or parts mike.

and put the M715 cab/bed on the J10 frame. This will require a little bit of work to get the bed on with the difference in wheelbase. I think I'll bob the frame behind the spring hangers.

Run this setup with the 39" XML's.

I'm thinking I'll need to beef up the dana 300 with the 32spline outputs as well.

I'll lock the front before I put it in. Maybe do the 35spline outers. blah blah blah.

Mark are you up for all this?

buy them, but be sure you want the 4.56s. If you're going to try to go lower, you should look cheaper...if not, sounds like a fair deal!

This setup will give me a crawl ratio of about 85 and still let me cruise at 2500rpm on the highway so it should be a decent all around setup.

If I need lower gearing I can always go lower in the dana 300.

I helped him pull them and gave him a deposit this morning.

Now I am actually going to have to work on my crap!
