I am looking for the right site or store to buy new carpet and new headliner for my 79 Cherokee Chief. So far, I haven't been able to find any good sites. Any suggestions would be great! Also, I would like the find a site that could sell me some some original wooden bed liner lookin' interior for the trunk area. Thanks in advance!

I think I'm going with [email protected] for my head liner, carpet and door panels on my 79. They seem to be reasonable and from what I've seen can do some pretty good work.79 Cherokee S (current project)

Where can we find the backing board for the headliner AND for the door panels? I want to do this myself and want factory similar, not metal or plywood... This is for restoration.
Also, the black plastic vapor barrier, too....

a while back we found a company that could make the door and cargo panels, and we needed to send them a headliner board to make a mold from. I'll see if Brent still has their info, as I now have my headliner dug out and could send to make one from.BJ's Off-Road

So...you could improvise?
I have been known to use really heavy cardboard and poster board for headliner backer board. Pretty straight forward really, you can get almost everything you need cheaply at a local Arts and Crafts store. Simply buy several large sheets of poster board, trim to shape, I tend to leave an extra 1 1/2 inches or so, very carefully glue your headliner material to the board, tack it to the roof where it mounts around the edges and the top with a little hot glue, place trim up, very carefully trim excess with razor blade, voila!! New headboard!!
If you want to get super cool and fancy, instead of using just poster board, buy some of the cheap insulation foam board stuff (Lowes or Home Depot, what you would use in walls), carefully trim it to shape, repeat process above but using the foam as poster board or attached to the poster board with gorilla glue, and now you have an insulated roof, which will help keep your vehicle's interior at temp and reduce wind noise from the roof rack and/or ridiculously cool, super fast, awesome guy speeds these bad @$$ old rigs are capable of!!
See, 1st grade really did turn out to be useful, huh?'75 Wagoneer, bone stock, about to be a whole garage of parts. Tear down starts 3 March, 2012,

I should note that if you use the foam board, DO NOT LEAVE EXCESS!! It becomes a major pain in the behind to trim up. Put the Poster board on top of the insulation, don't glue all the way out to the edges, you'll want a little room to move the headliner to fit it under the trim. Good luck!!
P.S. More comes to me while I am thinking about this. This would also be a really good time to reseal any holes through the roof from roof racks, bust rust, seal with rust-o-leum, run speaker or other wires, etc....Last edited by MonsterZ; 01-30-2012, 06:08 AM.'75 Wagoneer, bone stock, about to be a whole garage of parts. As far as carpet goes, BJ's is pretty awesome and have great customer service. If you are trying to do this on the cheap, most carpet stores have scrap or throw away piles or rolls of carpet that they will let go for really cheap. I used indoor/outdoor carpet on my last suburban from a local carpet store and I think I paid about $20, but I was flexible on color and willing to put in the work to cut it to my needs, trim, mold, etc. None if it is complicated or super difficult, but it is fairly time and energy consuming.'75 Wagoneer, bone stock, about to be a whole garage of parts. I used masonite in lieu of that paperish upholstery board for door panels. My jeep had good vinyl but the panels were rotted and warped. I stripped off the vinyl and foam, transferred the original board to masonite, put sealer on it, then glued and stapled the original vinyl back on. Still nice and straight after a decade.'64 J200 thriftside
