    Starter options

    Need to replace the starter.

On what other vehicles can I locate a starter that will bolt right on to my Wagoneer?

What year Wag you have? All the 360 starters are pretty much the same (Ford type) till I think 1988 when they went to Mitsubishi starters.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

odd question, but did all '5.9' stamped blocks use the mitsubishi starter from the factory? What I mean is are there any '5.9's using the ford unit?

Do you have the impression that they are unable to be found..
Your local NAPA/Autozone/Oriellys' will have it listed by your vehicle year , etc.

            Cheap too!

Just spent $35 and still have a $12 core charge for Advance Auto....code A123 works great, find something else and get to $75 and get free shipping.

Just for clarity... its not a starter that was used on any Ford.
Option B: you can have a gear reduction starter built, but considerably more expensive.

I'm not sure about that statement. My starter is the same PN as what was used on a 460 Ford BB engine. I have the 83 J10 360/Auto currently and before this I had an 85 J10 258/Stick. Oth of these use the same 460 BB Ford starter.

Keep in mind that this is a starter motor not a gear reduction unit. What that means is the starter has no extra mechanical advantage built into it, just what the electrical potential of your battery will provide.

Make sure your starting and ground circuits are good before you try replacing the starter.

Any local auto parts store and most junk yards will be able to cross reference you starter for you to tell you what you need or what will fit. If you get one from a parts store get the extended warentee! These are rebuilt units from the lowest bidder and have a high failure %.
