    Hood Ornament Restoration

Hey guys. I just re-finished my hood ornament. It was pretty crusty. I didn't want to pay $200+ for a NOS or new.

My chrome was peeling and the substrate was pretty badly oxidized. I used my DIY sandblasting cabinet to get a decent surface to prime and paint.

I ended up using Spaz Stix Mirror Chrome paint (close to chrome in appearance). Still have to clear-coat but I'll do that when the truck gets painted.

I am also planning to make the Jeep inlay. If it turns out, I can make more. I'll post a video of the process, but for now here is a poorly edited Hood Ornament vid.

Needs interior work. Smells like a refinery on the outside. Relatively rust free.

        Thanks.

I hope the next phase will turn out also. Essentially I'm using the salvaged inlay to make a silicone mold with which I can do some casting. The original parts were some sort of plastic. If I can cast them with an epoxy or poly resin, they'll be just as good.

Hope to have it done in a few days. And if it works, and you need one, let me know and I'll set up a mold to have 2 or more at a time.

Just finished pouring the resin into the molds.

I'm making a video of how this was done, but my experience isn't pro-level (on videos or mold making). I just watched some crafty ladies on Youtube and tried myself.

I don't have a photo sharing membership anywhere. I hope to de-mold today and post video shortly.

I'm committed to it working. I made 4 molds (actually 7, but 3 were crap). I'll

            Coming soon.

Thanks for watching! The tube isn't a business for me, and neither are the emblems.

Will be painting them shortly from the backside as the originals.

                      That was super cool.

To be honest, I have a weird habit (that's what my wife calls it) of watching youtube videos of people restoring toys, tools, etc. This video was straight up my alley.
