? about 76 Transfer Case rebuild

    Hello:
First thanks for the help. I?m planning to rebuild
my QT to match my soon to receive new rebuilt 360 and TH400 (bought kit, just starting)
I was able to find lots of rebuild kits for the TH400 but none for the
QT. Does a guy just crack it open and replace piece by piece of what needs
    replacing?

I really should start. Build thread.

    Thanks!

    Rebuilt, 360, TH400, QT.

Have you read the TSM? http://oljeep.com/edge_76_tsm.html That would be the place to start. Jubilee Jeeps has a page you should read. http://jubileejeeps.org/quadratrac/index.htm

Not much parts support for these cases. I recall chains are available, but not cheap. Some bearings, seals, gaskets. Most everything else is not, except as acceptable used pieces.

BJs actually has a pretty good assortment of parts availability now. Check over at FSJnetwork, lots of QT talk over there as well.

Something to consider: The QT case is full time 4WD (the first AWD). If that is cool with you, then continue down the path you are on. I am not sure where Cochrane is but if you don't need AWD all the time, you might consider converting over to a part time kit. I mention this because rebuilding the AWD can get expensive because of specific parts and tools needed. It is usually a bit cheaper to buy the part time kit that swaps the AWD parts out. Research "Mile Marker Part time kit quadratrac".

Also, keep your eyes open in the classifieds here, these cases pop up fairly often and it may be easier/cheaper to buy a complete case than rebuild yours. Same with Craigslist.

If you get snow, the QT is a pretty awesome case. Rebuild it stock and you'll be happy. It may not be the absolute cheapest option, but you will be satisfied with its performance.

Hi. I just moved the jubileejeeps.org web site to a new host provider this past week. If you had trouble accessing the QT pages, they were affected and thus down for a day or two. It should all be working now.

The QT is hard to find most parts. Stuff still available if you seek: bearings, fork pads, fiber thrust washer on main sprocket, vacuum diaphragm for Edrive shifter, Edrive lamp switch, seals and gaskets, chain, and fluid (TCL1).

BJs has new Brake Cones made by Novak. I got two sets and one set has been installed in a QT but it is not in a Jeep yet. One drawback to getting new brake cones has to do with the differential case sprocket. This sprocket can not be found new. Once a set of brake cones have been ground into the sprocket, chances are the sprocket is ruined. This is very common. I went through 16 differentials this summer to find 2 good case sprockets to put the new brake cones in.

It sounds like your QT is not in a Jeep right now. If so, that's good. Before ordering any parts, I recommend you tear the QT down and inspect it for wear and/or broken parts.

I have the 77 QT manual available here:
