"By 1978 Mickey had organised major sponsors to support off-road racing. He then talked a big number of celebrities into racing identically prepared Jeeps around the off-road desert course he'd built at Riverside International Raceway.
The celebrities included Clint Walker, James Garner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Brolin, Martin Milner, Ruth Buzzi, Redd Foxx, Troy Donahue, Dan Haggerty, Richard Roundtree, Ken McCord and boxing champions Ken Norton, Dick Smothers and Elke Sommers.
This new dimension in off-road racing was called the American Motors/Jeep All-Star Challenge. The fans went beserk and the stars loved every minute. Mickey's group SCORE (Short Course Off Road Events) grew in size and the events got bigger and better."
Don't know if it falls in "celebrity" status - but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi drove one up until a few years ago.

Sorry guys, I've got to go sell my waggy now. It was nice knowing you all....
It gets worse: Yesterday, during a visit to Government Motors, Pres Obama said he used to own a Grand Wagoneer (I think he said it was his first vehicle). Maybe that's why he was dissing Scott Brown's Ford truck, brand loyalty, and we all just misunderstood.

If that could be confirmed I would never own another one...

My mistake, it was a Grand Cherokee, and it was his "first new car." A clip of his comments is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79FbL...eature=channel. It is a 23 1/2-minute clip, but, mercifully, his Grand Cherokee comments are in the first 5 1/2 minutes of it (about 5:10 would be a good place to start listening if you want to minimize the nausea).

Go Ruth Buzzi! Anyways, Grand Wagoneers were so expensive only Celebrities good afford them. On the flip side. Since Celebrities don't buy anything. Grand Wagoneers were so good they had to give them away.

I've seen the orange "Jerrari" - Very cool!
They sold the last production Wagoneer a few years ago - it had just over 5,000 miles on it, and it sold for $36,000 or so. Last I heard, the guy at grandwagoneer.com was the person that bought it, and he had it for sale for some absolutely CRAZY price. Something like $165,000!
