Then my best guess is you do not have a part time conversion and you should leave the hubs locked to prevent damaging the limited slip differential in the transfer case. The only way to really know if it is converted (and trucks are easier than Waggys and Cheros) is to remove the inspection cover over the shifter and see what kind of shift collar is in there. There is a spring retainer nearest the vacuum diaphram on the shifter. Don't let that get away from you. You may need a light and mirror to do this with it in the truck.

      This might help:

Don't be fooled by others on the quality of a Quadratrac, when they work, they kick butt.

Changing tcase to D20 or NP205 - That requires:
          • a different adapter between the tcase and the tranny
          • change the tailshaft on tranny (tear down, overhaul)
          • w/NP205, frame crossmemeber modifications are probably required

find out what fluid is in it, if its atf its usually (not always) part time. if its anything else than chances are it hasnt been converted.

Sorry, but I have dumped ATF out of too many stock QTs to trust that theory.

yup your right hence the "not always" part. i am guessing hundreds of these cases have been killed by atf. on that vacuum diagram where it says to engine vacuum source where did it hook up on a stock engine?

Yeah, I just had to say it though. It is sad to see red juice flowing out of a QT unless you get lucky and find it is a part time.

The engine vacuum source is off the vacuum "ball" that was on the firewall directly behind the air cleaner. There should be a Y fitting that provides vacuum to the Edrive switch and heater controls. I believe the earliest QT equipped FSJs had the vacuum "ball" on the left fender well. The vacuum "ball" gets it's source off the intake manifold.

I know this thread is forever old. But I traded my J20 in about a year ago along with my WJ Grand Cherokee for a new to me pickup. I miss my old work truck something terrible. Just wondering if anybody has seen it around. Its hard to miss J20 Snow Boss with lots of random DOT Class 3 reflective tape on it (thanks dad)

Last time I saw it it was headed west out of Mason City, IA on a semi car hauler

man that was a nice truck. I consider the WJ to be the last of the full size jeeps, since its not a wrangler and still has solid axles. Buts its definitely no J20.

Id advise acquiring another FSJ asap to avoid withdrawal

                        Do a Google search.
