    Engine color for 87 Wagoneer

Okay guys my head is spinning.
I have read about 6 threads on engine colors and have seen some amazing looking engines painted 50 shades of blue, orange, red and even a "hello kitty" pink

My question is, what color was the engine and it's components when it came from the factory? Anyone have a photo of the engine back in 87?

On a 2nd note, anyone know of a link to a sales brochure for the 87?

    Thanks in advance

My understanding is that the v-8 engines are painted black by the '80s.
It would be great to see some original sales and marketing literature, or magazine 'road tests' from the time that show under the hoods.
One day I'll see what the Philadelphia Library has in their automotive collection which is pretty extensive.

I assume you know about this page

There's another website like this one with a lot of dealer brochures neatly organized including Jeep. http://www.oldirononline.com/ http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/
Unfortunately either I didn't bookmark it or didn't file it so I could find it again.. It did not have any engine bay pictures but a fair amount of sales lit for most years of the FSJs going back to the 60s.

My 1989 360 came to me painted bright orange. Is there a serial number or marking pad on it I can check to see if it came from another year?

          AMC blue.

Sweet. Most good FSJers know it.

It was originaaly black but, I agree with everyone else that AMC Blue looks the best.

by the way, my 1982 AMC 360 is black painted, every where....is it stock or what was the condition?

Go with the color it was born with...

Black is the way to go if you want to be historically
              accurate and true.

My 1987 J10 engine block remains black while associated parts
I remove for servicing always get cleaned and a respray of black before going back on.

Best of luck however you decide.

              😉

I like that idea of respray if anything comes out.
I took high heat black engine paint and a small paint brush to touch up parts of the engine that were looking tired. Not flawless, but definitely dresses it up.

I went with blue to hopefully see any fluid leaks easier as well...

bwahahaha! Yea, you'll see the fluids much easier!

I'd paint at least, my valve cover's in an older factory AMC engine color. Just cause' it looks cooler, than boring, common black.

Has anyone painted their radiator cover? I assume just use a high heat rattle can?
