Got the cylinder head back from the machinist, It's a write off. All of the valve seats had multiple cracks and there were several cracks from valve seats to the injector ports. A new complete cylinder head with valve train assembly installed is on the way.

The 2nd cylinder head arrived today. The first one is still out there floating around in Fedex land, Fedex lost it.

It was a good day. The head is torqued down, valves adjusted, exhaust and intake are on, torqued down and got the oil pump primed. The engine is on the test stand with the trans attached. Waiting for new copper gaskets for the injectors and return line, then prime the injection pump and start it up!

            Compression test with unseated rings:
            8 pumps each

            #1 400 psi, #2 400 psi, #3 375 psi, #4 400 psi

on the Second test came up with the same numbers.

At last it runs Great! All it took was a set of new (standard) chrome rings, a set of standard bearings for the crank shaft and rods. A quick pass with a flex hone and a new cylinder head. Click on the photo to run the video

Opened it up a bit more and test fitted the cover.

Working on electrical. Got the placement for the relay box and spliced in the wires for the RV plug, the grid heater solenoid and the fuse for the grid heater. Waiting on electrical parts to finish up.

                            Unprogress:

After dinner I was thinking about how far I'd gotten after a full day in and on the SJ doing electrical. That's when I realized I'd I forgotten to heat the heat shrink on the butt connectors for the RV plug. So this morning ripped the tape of the loom and finished the heat shrinking and re-taped.

Insulated the exhaust tunnel. Aluminum reflective heat shield on the engine side and double foil backed jute on the inside.
