Now I have done it. Don't tell the wife.

Drove over to the North Seattle area and brought this home last Sunday. Actually I just thought I was being tailgated by some dude driving backwards. And found this thing somehow made it on my trailer when I was not looking. That's what I told the wife anyway.

Hey at least it is a full size jeep. 2nd one I have owned now. I am thinking I should get a lift kit and some bigger tires.

    Time to build something cool.

You can tell your wife you got rid of it and you can just keep it at my house! You'll be able to work on it more in the nice warm Virginia weather too!
    1987 Grand Wagoneer Stock
The original owner kept it in a garage and barely drove it, I bought it in Sept of '15 with 107K miles on the clock... so many of the parts that I pull off are still AMC originals.

This should be an interesting build. Are you going to restore it to stock or ? Those must be 44's on it now, right?

We had one to use when I was stationed on Veiques Island, Puerto Rico. It was a really low mile 1968 version. I've always loved those. I still have a couple of pictures of it.

Anyway I'm looking forward to see what you are going to do with it.

Well I could not pass it up. The price was way right and interestingly the truck was titled in Virginia, South Dakota and Mass... Then washington. Yesterday the licensing office refused to transfer the title because of what I paid. They said it could be worth up to 20K and I needed to pay the taxes on their estimate. Uh,, excuse me? When did Washington dept of Lic get into vehicle appraisal's? I actually asked that and she replied, about two years ago.. I have the we are honest dudes form getting mailed to the seller today. Geez, he printed the online sale form filled out for the sale. It is essentially the same information not hand written as the form they are requiring me to send. They did this to me on a 500 dollar 53 Willys wagon I bought from a neighbor. But they went through with it that time. Not this time. I know these two gals well enough for them to joke with me and call me Al the jeep guy. And still she seemed to have an attitude. I tried my best to be good. I guess they have rules to follow now.
I missed Idaho by 1500 feet. Dang me I am sorry I moved to this state. Idaho does not pull this crap.

So it will be a non stock back woods exploring and fire wood truck. A Buick 350, modified T-98 with J truck input and bellhousing, either a 205 or IH 202 transfer case and so far I have the rear axle, a dodge Dana 70 which is 8 lug.
I have a lead on a 91 dodge 8 lug dana 60 about 1.5 hours away. But suddenly the seller got quiet after saying as long as it was not a dana 61 I am very interested. No good gear sets fit a 61 and there is a really good chance it is one. Ad has been up for 18 days and Dana 60 king pin axles never last that long for sale. I suspect he is hoping I don't know the difference. Dana 61's have 3.5 axle tubes. Dana 60's 3.125 The BOM number is the sure way to tell IF you can read it.

So a non stocker and fun rig with a good cool factor. I just need to be able to out run mosquito's !!!

Well I am going to de-tune the ride height and put some slightly smaller tires on. There is a 4 inch body lift on the cab that is going away. I can't decide spring over or under. I am all wore out. Monday my wife and I drove yet another full day for a K30 Dana 60 and a narrow 14 bolt. I can't use the 14 bolt as it was a dually. But it has 4.56 gears and thats good. It was new country to explore and a beautiful day. Then 10 hours yesterday making reproduction John Deere parts. I am tired today. I am a forum tramp. Depends on what I am doing where I am posting. If I would quit posting I would not be building parts and looking at my stalled projects. Eh, who am I kidding, I am as grateful as heck. Hope everyone is having a good pandemic!

If I ever own another pickup, it will be a M715 just like that, OD green and everything. That thing is perfect, shame about registering it.... Many places are taxing the crap out of anything over 25 years old, I have had to take my waggy to get it personally appraised by the tax office, valued it well below what they said before they saw it in person, they are doing the same thing with the CJ7 I just bought... Good thing here is that any vehicle over 35 years old doesn't require an annual state inspection.

Yes they are taking all the fun out of cheap salvage finds that can be fixed up.
I got the signed form back from the seller. I went right to the dept of Licensing and made it there by 3:50 last Friday. The were closing for a minimum of two weeks possibly up to 1.5 months. Talk about a close call.
The gal that knows me as Al the jeep guy was thankfully there. It went smooth as glass. The other younger gal last week was a real joy telling me it could be worth 20K. Both of them were nice like normal. I was wondering if I would ever get a title for it. It's done and on the way..

I think I am going after a flat dark earth in satin. Black for all the trim and wheels. It's going to be sweet. It will be great building it the way I want. Not waiting for that rare NOS part to show up. Like the first M715 I had. It was a sweet truck, but this one will be to in a very different way.
