Have you ever looked at your FSJ...

...and felt an upwelling of love and admiration for it?
I was walking past Bessie, my old FSJ, after dealing with a wacky dome light that killed her battery overnight and I couldn't help but grin.
Despite all the rust, leaks, knocks, rattles, and gremlins hiding in her dusty, rusty old body I really love that machine!

Anybody else ever get that feeling or have I lost it?

Every time I see it when I go in the Garage.

And even while I was driving it home for the first time with a worn out cam & lifters and a plugged cat converter.

Smack mine on the bumper after every good drive, and sometimes after a good mudhole or a messy trail run she does this post-coital smoking thing. I hear its common, but I'd never seen it in a vehicle before.

            You've not lost it...

...you've found it! I love strolling up to Sluggo II and going to and from work. I have a picture of it set as my wallpaper. I like the way it stands out in the parking lots among all the generic-looking subcompacts and imports. I think these are the coolest vehicles around and enjoy very much owning one (well, two, sorta...)

I also love the fact I'm able to work on it (with lots of help from the good folks here!) and have the satisfaction of being able to understand and maintain it. It's all good...

I've looked at mine and thought, wow, what a piece of s**t(If you saw it you'd understand), does that count?

In all seriousness I love that piece of s**t, if someone wanted it they'd have to pry it out of my bloody and oil covered hands.

I almost posted a similar thread recently. People around here bust my balls about breaking down and running outta gas. I remind them I just brought my J10 back from the dead and I'm replacing 34 year old parts.

And all the total parts I've replaced and put in are cheaper then their mechanic's bill for replacing their alternator. hahahahaha

I wouldn't take it back. I love it.

Elwood is upnorth but no matter how late I get in when I go back home and visit, she always gets a little hello and a little pat on the hood before I walk to say hi to the fam.
And then when I see her in daylight...

Every time I look at it or even think about it! I've driven more capable 4x4s, and I've driven extremely fast cars of all types, but absolutely nothing gives me a better feeling than driving my 401 powered FSJ, not even the M3 (comes close though).

I think a huge part of the satisfaction is that I've had it for 10 years and have done 100% of the work on it myself to get it to its current state. Cruising down the road listening to the 401 hum along always puts a smile on my face. Everyone always tells me that it sounds like a powerboat at speed, so now I just imagine I'm cutting through the water instead of air.

My butt has sat behind the wheel of my 88 GW for about 165,000 miles. Sometimes I want to just spit on it. Then after I have walked away, I feel guilty. I insist this is not a problem.

                              Older Woman Crying

When I was searching for a wag, I came across one in a used car lot. It was an 84 with 240K on the clock. It was totally rust out (floors, quarters, rockers and more) and running like complete crap, knocking engine and more. The salesman said he just picked it up from an older women who was the original owner.....she really didn't want to let it go. When she handed over the title she burst into tears and continued crying as she watched him drive off with it. The salesman said it was quite touching. Obviously she had a connection with her Jeep.
