    GW: Gas-tank scuff-plate removal?

How difficult is it to remove the gas-tank scuff-plate? I was thinking of removing it, powder-coat, and re-install... IF, it's not too difficult. Thoughts?

Difficulty for mechanicaly inclined - 3 out of ten...

Face full of dirt and rust - 8 out of ten

using bad words 10 out of 10

this is best done with the rig up in the air or at least on stands

drain the tank as the skid plate also holds the tank up - so its heavy even empty

the coffin has straps on top that hold the tank into it so you have to pull the whole shebang to seperate the two

be careful of the rubber lines

X2 on tripwire directions. Can be done by self but easier with helper. I wanted to put bedliner on the inside when I did mine , but ran out of time.

        Just got done doing it...
It was just as described above.
I don't want to do it again.

But I did it by myself and it took about an afternoon of steady work start to finish. With a helper it "should" be much easier.

Oh and my sending unit dosent work now...

        good luck!

Mechanically-inclined scale 1-10. Crist ='s a big 'ole 1. Moving on to the next big-bad-idea!

What year? On pre 80's it's an optional separate protection plate for the steel tank. On an 80 and later it's the gas tank mount that holds the tank in the car. So when removed the entire tank comes with. Not a difficult task but not really fun either.
