    OK,
so we can say it is more a 78 than a 79 model.
The razor grill and the 3 piece bumber is original although it is a J9 VIN Number.
    right?

I will use the 1977 TSM from oljeep for electrical
Where to find a better picture from the fuse panel as in the 1977 wiring diagram ?

Have found the fusepanel at page 128 of the 1977 owners manual...
just looking for the green "hulk" :-)

78 is different than 77 for some of the wiring.
In 1978 Jeep changed charging system and ignition system.

That green thing was added it is not stock and not gonna find a pic of it.

this is the kit for the carter... will buy them.

Spec sizes for the 9637 carburetor are:
        FORD
        625 CFM UNIVERSAL
        12094
        9637S, 9637SA
        AFB
        Primary: .098
        Secondary: .095
        Rods: 70x47

        for comparison only:
        Edelbrock 1406: Metering Rod Size .075 x .047 in
        Primary Jet Diameter 0.98
Secondary Jet Diameter 0.095Main Venturi Diameter 1.19

the jets are equal, but the rod size might be different to the 1406
(In case it got not changed )

it is a aftermarket carburetor for Ford..
It is not easy for me to order parts because the shipping to germany
But I have a opportunity for shipping in a few weeks.

Yeah, you're probably going to have to follow the wires and see where they lead. I also notice 2 of your fuses are bypassed (wires wrapped around the fuses). Pay special attention to those circuits. A previous owner probably kept blowing those fuses and instead of finding out why/fixing it, they put wires around the fuses.

If you have a 3 piece bumper, round headlights, I would work on your truck like its a 78. Maybe, because it was shipped over seas, the timing of it all, made a late 78 title/VIN'ed/Registered as a 79.

As far as the shifter linkage, I think the best way to find the slop is to start either at the shift handle in the truck or the U-shaped bracket at the trans and start looking for slop. I agree, the bracket looks loose. Mine does not have a bushing between the U-shaped bracket on the trans and the shifter either.

                    What is the "56 orange 16 " under the "54 yellow 16"
I think the 54 yellow 16 is the switch for kickdown in the transmission?
The other end is the kickdown switch near the pedal.
                    But the 56 orange16?
Goes to a cluster connection and with wire 9B black 18 to the seat belt buzzer..

I will take some pics of the setup i put on this weekend for the shift mechanism. Yours looks like mine, and mine does not match the Manual picture either. No spring in the U bracket,

You could pull the cotter pin out and remove the linkage. Then "click" the U bracket thru the gears to visualize the geometry.

Other than the jumped fuses, that box looks pretty clean. Buy a box of fuses and see how fast they blow. Then start tracing circuits.

                        Meine zwei pfennig...

Yellow wire is kickdown for trans. From trans solenoid on side of TH400 to neutral safety switch at base of steering column in cab. Orange is dash light for 4WD as mentioned earlier. Trans case top to dash cluster.

It does look like an earlier model fuse box. I had a 76 CJ with glass fuses, but the 79 I had was the plastic buss fuses. Perhaps export models were shipped with the earlier versions?
