    New head unit instal questions

Ok, so i'm just about finished with the wiring of the new head unit. I have the installation kit from Crutchfield.

I have been reading that I need to cut the dash to get it to fit. Can anyone post pics on what they had to do in order to install a new head unit in a waggy. (1991)

    thanks

Thats just for the radios in the earlier ones with the 2 knobs. In out dash the install is the same as a Jeep Cherokee XJ. They used the same radio in the early 90's!

As long as you have a single DIN radio, you're fine. And you can't put a double DIN in there without hacking into the glove box area.

Some people have to trim the black plastic trim that covers most of the dash. When I put mine in the small black bezel that goes around the head unit would not fit with the trim piece but when I took of the small bezel off the trim went on perfectly and closed the gap around the head unit nicely.

ok cool, thanks guys. I put the HU up to the hole and thought it looked as if it fit so I couldnt figure out what I was supposed to cut.

          thanks again, hopefully pics soon

I've always trimmed the new HU's bezel so that it fits inside/behind the black dash trim.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. The tunes are up and running. Its amazing how much better a new stereo sounds,

FYI, for anyone else doing this. I did have trim just a little bit on the bottom of the opening. Nothing a dremel couldn't handle.

No but if you really need it, PM me and Ill try to get some. I just got the mounting kit from Cruchfield as most suggest around here. Once you try to put it in you will see what needs to be trimmed on the bottom of the opening. Its pretty obvious. ON the install kit/bracket I cut all the upper and lower tabs off.

Do you have a link to the kit you bought? Or a part number?
