You can get a pile of money invested in axles. I have a set of D60s (GM fr..Dodge rr) which I paid to have regeared, locked and the rear spindles bored for 1.5" custom...

I used the 2" front aal from Rusty's on my J-10 a few years back w/D60 front. My stock springs had the same troubles as yours. The ride was great for an aal.
