If you can find a temperature gauge that will fit in the panel, you can replace the CVR with a regulator chip 7805 or 7806. Easy, cheap. Search for those numbers and you'll find a lot of discussion...

Ignition coil is pretty easy to test. Power to the coil, ground and lift the ground to the primary. This should make a spark at the coil wire. Or swap to another car and see if it still runs....
