as thread title suggests i had an issue with the temp gauge jumping around. it would peg at top, sit at bottom or frantically twitch in-between. so i pulled the wire connected to the coolant temp...

Mine doesn't have the horseshoe connector bracket thing at all - just a couple of wires with the slip on spade connectors (old post style coil).

Tape was used the first time.
It was nipped tight & seemed ok, but then started to leak. Touched it, it loosened up & leaked some more....
So pulled it out & reinstalled with thixotropic gel paste...

hi -
changed out the t-stat on 89 GW.
had a leak at the port where the adaptor (& adjoining temperature sender bolt assembly) bolts into the housing...

the adaptor (not the temp sender assembly)...

Factory gauge has a lot of movement. There was a time when it would just sit above blue zone...

hi -

rebuilt engine, 40k miles.

recently replaced radiator with new OEM equivalent - i had a situation with coolant loss & a bit of boil-over in the over flow tank & a fair bit of rust/brown...

you know, i'm thinking my Jeep's been rougher with more vibrations since i changed to a new transmission mount. just havent got around to it yet what with all the other issues.... i feel your pain.

i've had a cracked flex-plate before - this noise is so much more subtle than that, nothing like it really - my mechanic is looking over it now, thanks for the input though :thumbsup:

Mechanic had another listen today. Seems pretty confident not engine related but either a start motor going bad or even something near the linkage from area where transmission connects to the block....

I run a 20/60 especially designated for LPG/older style engines. I switched to a 10/50 for a bit and that's when I noticed the noise - but maybe I'm just tuned into it...
