It's already sticking out as far as possible in that pic. Anything more would require cutting steel, repainting and what not. It should be easier to reshape the plastic. Hopefully.....

Can you take a pic of the back side of both resistor blocks to see how the resistors are attached? It could be the new one is different and you might need to switch around a wire or two.
