Is that an edelbrock intake manifold? Hard to tell without zooming out on the photo to get some context but that looks like it could be the PCV valve? There would be no vacuum coming out of the port,...

Just curious why you want to keep your NP229 with this swap? If your AW4 came with a NV242 that would be superior transfer case in my opinion. Much more reliable torsen for the center diff instead of...

Yeah, honestly I had to laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing was. I'm definately hyper-aware of everything when I'm driving any vehicle, especially older ones. I'm so OCD I can't help it.

Sounds like you need to get a different mechanic. Did he even test drive it before he gave it back to you? No way any competent mechanic would give a vehicle back to a customer driving like that....

If the intermittent wiper module is indeed your problem you can put a module in from an XJ cherokee or YJ Wrangler. It plugs right in and works great. As far as I can tell it's essentially the same...

If that's your end goal I think your best option would be to sell both jeeps and buy a Honda or Toyota. "Super reliable" and "30+ year old jeep" are two terms rarely used in the same sentence.

I am not running a sniper EFI, I'm running a modified Howell GM TBI system, but I personally found that vacuum controlled EGR function can wreak havoc with the tune. Since the Howell system...

A few people mentioned high zinc levels killing catalytic converters. While that is certainly true, CATs are super cheap (even California legal ones) for FSJs and much easier to change out than...

You can disconnect and plug all vacuum ports on the carb and manifold and run it. If you still have a vacuum leak then you've got an intake vacuum leak or other problem. Still recommend the smoke...

I used to have similar problems with my '88. In my case it was fuel system related. Fuel would drain back in the line back to the tank and have trouble re-priming. Would run for a bit off the fuel in...

If you can borrow a smoke machine that's an excellent way to detect vacuum leaks without running the engine. How do you know it's a vacuum leak and not some other problem? Could be ignition timing...

By '88 they had phased out the 6 cylinder so it should be a V8 with 727. Not sure if it's relevant to you, but I believe that the regular versions (with 2.73 gears) had a torque converter lock-up...

The compressor putting extra load on the engine could have something to do with it. Do you notice a big drop in RPMs at idle when turning the AC on? Assuming you're running a carb, the idle speed...
