Pretty fundamental....too much tension on the discs=spinning wheel. I would suggest a massive burnout while turning may loosen things up.

Normally just two things...The center has kind of welded itself to the axle(heat fixes this) and the shoes are worn in so far that there is a lip on the inner edge...Heat, torch, grinding...

Nope. At least from the time of the open knuckle(post 74?)....i have put j20 hubs, mid 70s chevy 10 bolt hubs, on to several late 70's and early 80s j10 44s. Now some will tell you the j20 axle...

FWIW, I had a 304 in 73 J3000 w/ auto. 33 in tires 3:73 gears. It was adequate but just barely in my opinion. A 304 is a great engine for something smaller but not for a truck which none of us leave...

I once coached a mechanical engineer through his 258 to 360 swap....He listened for a while and then got smarter than me.

He put a camshaft into his 360 which would have been compatible with drag...
