Will send pics when I get a chance this weekend.

The plastic is all good and it still retracts perfectly. I don't have the mounts anymore, is the only thing missing.

Most new bike racks already come up a lot--not sure you'd have to worry about it much. I'd actually run it upside down if anything, so that I can access the back. Just, no A/C, so if I get groceries...

That's awesome! I've always liked the red/white combo on classic trucks (mostly IH and Jeep), especially with fall foliage around it, or at least in the woods. Looks like trouble waiting to happen ;)

I don't know that they ever had 16s with the 6x5.5 lug patterns on the Jeeps. Anything with a 16" would be a 3/4 ton and thus be 8 lug. Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't seen reference to stock 16s on...

The new 4Runners and Frontiers and stuff all still have 6x5.5 wheels--if you can find some take-offs from one of those you should be able to get them pretty cheap. Only thing you have to watch is...

It was mid-'78 I think. You just have to look and see--if there are two bolts on the latch plate then it's the late one, if it has three, it's the early one. The early ones are usually body color;...

We used the non-toxic Prestone stuff for a long time, but then a) it got expensive, and b) we moved north, making that stuff not rated to a low enough temperature.

As I think about it, it's not as bad of a setup as I thought, but still weird. Not straightforward quite like "turn it right for faster, left for slower, and push the button for washers," is.
