I am not sure about your leak, but I'll say this. After I pulled mine apart, rebuilt it and discovered that the carb leaked out at the bowl joints, I was only then informed that these carburetors...

Have you messed with the diverter valve thingy on the exhaust yet to make sure it isn't sticking? It's on the passenger side where the manifold changes to the regular exhaust pipe.
