Sure. I'd say go for it. I haven't heard of but one or two doing it, but if you think about it, the later D44 front axles (without the disconnect) is the same thing as if you permanently locked one...

I considered doing this on my old 85 Dodge that had a vacuum disconnect and manual transfer case linkage. I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine.

Yep...don't. They really don't move any more air than a stock fan with a properly operating fan clutch. I've heard they're nosier on the highway too, but I don't have any experience with them.
