I agree with Mike D, it looks like rear end lube sling. check the level of the rear end grease. does the wet spot smell like gas or gear lube

unless I looked thru it wrong they do not list a tag for 84 the only one that goes that high is the 81-86 export manual trans and 83-85 export auto trans

Got a bunch of punch list items down on the wagoneer today, one of the items was to work on the Speedometer, started by pulling the cable at the transfer case, low and behold the core...
