I imagine a 90s GM and 79-91 AMC have similar loading.

The screw in and stumble then back out 2 turn will get you in the ball park, but it will always be a guess on the tailpipe numbers.

Man, if sure sounds like the spring in the valve could be weak causing an overactive EGR. By rights you should be able to eliminate the delay and not have the issue you have.
