Icon 4x4 on The Hoonigans - $500k Wagoneer

With this kind of build, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

    But I have to ask.
I'm just guessing this build cost the customer $400-500k.
    He mentions 2200 hours. At $100/hr that's $220,000.
Add in $150k in parts, paint, CNC, and stuff, you're at $370,000.
    Plus 20% profit? $444,000

That's big kid money for a big kid toy.

I watched it, too. Cool rig. It's a bit much for my taste. That is a lot of expensive toy to take off road. To each his own, I guess. I prefer the Roadtrip Wagoneer done by Jeep.

I agree, the Roadtrip wag was more my taste.
I did really like the interior on Icon's jeep, even makes me re-think changing mine out to tan. Maybe I'll just freshen up the blue with some patterns more like what he ran with.
Still, I can't knock the customer's taste. If I had 500 grand to blow on an SUV that's not far off from what I'd do, too.

Man. He had some really cool stuff goin on there. I noticed he had a second, outer strip of weather stripping on the front doors, around the front seam of the door in addition to the one around the pinch weld. Wonder if that's stock? If not I wonder how much extra wind noise it keeps out. That electric e-brake is really slick as well.

Had to rebuild the heads on the 401, then went EFI with Megasquirt which was a lot more money than I expected by the time it was said and done.
It's, shall we say, a project.

              Nice Chevy in drag.

The work done was top-notch, but the end product is a disgusting frankenstein IMO. Should have just done a Blazer.

Of course he is only building what "the guy" wants - we'd all do the same for that kind of money!

I wonder how much it will be worth to the market the moment the buyer is handed the keys?

Well there will be a Vintage Air Gen IV under the dash. Quite a few of us here have done this mod.

Interesting. I would love to "clean up" the engine bay on my truck, but those vintage air kits look awfully expensive to fix something that isn't currently a problem for me...

Jonathan has been my absolute hero for the past ten years.
We drove one of his FJs a couple of years back. I have never had such an experience in any other vehicle. Just the absolute perfect build.
Heading out there next week. I hope the Wagoneer is still there.

It's a Jeep in sheet metal only.

He sure didn't have many compliments for the way Wagoneers were originally built and left the Jeep factory. I've seen a lot of custom car builders use that strategy of discrediting the original vehicle to make their own custom build sound more superior than it really is. Classic marketing.

Somebody will buy it. People don't really want old cars any more. They want modern cars with the sheet metal body of an old car and this fits the bill.

So we should settle for what Jeep offered so it can be all Jeep?

I wanted a four door - got it.

                            Full floater - nope.

                            Diesel - nope.

                            Five speed - nope.

High pinion front end - nope.

                            Etc, etc.

At some point with modifications, a Jeep becomes "not a Jeep" - I'm not sure exactly where that line is, but I know that this vehicle crossed it by a mile.

Since we are now in the realm of feelings and a whole lot of ART, we are all right.

I would still love to know exactly how much the buyer paid for it, and how much the buyer would get for it if he were to turn around and offer it for sale immediately after being handed the keys...
