    AMC 4 barrel to TBI plate?

    I have a 401 that is going to get 454 TBI slapped on it. Right now I'm on a four barrel intake with a Holley spread bore TBI adapter. If you are up on carbs, you already see the problem: the 4350 spread bore that AMC used is *not* the same spread bore that the Holley adapter was made for.
    So, what's the solution here?
    It looks like a die grinder might fix my problem.
    Would a 2-barrel AMC intake work?
    Edelbrock Performer intake?
    Some other adapter that is designed for the AMC intake?
    I got the Holley adapter free (birthday present) not realizing that "spread bore" wasn't sufficiently detailed. I don't want to spend $300 making a $60 part work, though.

    Hamilton has good options for tbi adapters

    Fuel injection conversions for International Harvester, AMC and Studebaker vehicles
    * 1981 stepside, 360, 727, 208, almost stock daily driver.
    * 1982 Laredo j-10, 360, 727, in rough shape and in the process of being rebuilt with 401, NV4500, Klune,
    . NP205,d60 front, d70 rear, fender work and minimal lift. It will probably take 10 years
    * 1973 jcab mounted on 1983 j20 frame. 360/t18/208 d44/d60. Almost completed

      Get a hold of a square bore intake, I don't believe anyone makes an adapter for the amc motorcraft 4350 4bbl intake.
      Plenty of used intakes out there if you don't want to pay for new.

        Hah! It looked like there was no way it would fit, with 1/4" or so of intake manifold showing under the adapter plate.
        The 454 TBI unit can open all the way with no interference, though, so it'll run.
        I'm going to use a die grinder to smooth the transition from adapter to intake manifold to minimize the harm there and eventually I'm going to buy an aluminum intake manifold - but it'd work with *zero* mods.

            Whatever adapter you end up using make sure the TBI unit fits properly. The newer 454 TBI have a larger base. Check out the pictures in the link below:

            TBI - Who is atually using a GM 454 TBI unit on a SBC? - Just curious. I have one of these laying around and while surely its possibly to fab a TV cable mount, I want to know who has actually done it. Is it more feasible to have my small bore TBI bored out to near the same size?

              There are many that feel bigger is always better. For TBI's many elect to go with the 454 throttle body. I won't get into the whole "is it really needed" discussion but need to simply point out some of the precautions that need to be taken if mixing and matching parts. First- the IH...

                I got mine from Bill at binder planet. I put it directly onto the spread bore intake in the 76 and put the TBI straight onto the adapter. I drove it to and from work today, about 75 miles. It works great and if you tell him spread bore he'll send the correct gasket. I would call Bill at binder planet, his adapter is top notch. Heck it looks like it's aircraft grade.
