My 84 waggy is leaking steering fluid. It appears to be leaking from top of the steering box where the shaft enters it. Not where the input and return fluid lines hook up at. Is a rebuild kit available or is a remanufactured steering box the solution? :(

Your box is still new enough where a kit should be available from any parts store.

Does it leak from the input shaft or the output shaft?

One of my buddies has a wrangler and he had major problems with aftermarket seals (at the output shaft). He paid 2 to 3 times more to get the jeep seal, but it worked.

Napa and Pep Boys both leaked after install.

The leak appears to be from the input shaft. :(

They do make a seal kit for it. Any chain parts store should have it. I priced them for mine and they had a listing for 80-86 and 87 so on... The kit was about $30. It came with all of the seals.

The pump itself isn't much more than that, IIRC. You'll need the pump housing o-rings, with it, if you do it that way.

It's not a hard job, but it is messy.

I poured in a bottle of PS seal conditioner, and I have no more leaks. Mine too was leaking from the top input seal. I was truly surprised it worked, but it did.
