I should know this, I feel silly for even asking, but here it goes. First an observation. I d to go into LA today I was in stop and go freeway traffic for 70 minutes and the truck never even thought about getting hot. When I hit the toll road the traffic let up and I was able to get up to speed, a long up hill grade by the time I got to the top she was reading just below 220°F.

87 Garand Wagoneer 360 2 barrel bone stock.

I have noticed she seems to lack power when climbing steep hills, I have to put the pedal right to the floorboard.

Are her belts slipping? How do I test this?

If her belts are slipping is this causing the transmission to work extra hard?

Will a hard working transmission overheat?

Transmission fluid goes through the radiator, there is no separate transmission cooler on this truck, this has to impede the cooling efficiency of the radiator. How much will this hurt the cooling efficiency of the radiator?

check your timing the trans will not make the engine over heat also check the vac adavance and the cat converter the trans cooler is for towing heavy loads the auto trans normal run temp is 212 - 240 degrees if you can keep the temp under 280 in the trans it will last forever as long as it has good fluid in it
