I found a '71 J20 9200 GVW flat bed. The guy thinks it has a 350 in it...Buick maybe? Would that be right for a '71? I would have thought it would have had an AMC motor by then?
It's a four speed...would that be a T-18?
Thanks,
Dean

A couple issues with this guys add, there were no J20's in 1971... it may be a J4000 however.
There were no JTrucks rated at over 8,600 GVWR and that was only the dually.
If it's a 4sp it is a T18 if original and yes the 350 was available up into '72 and IIRC it could even be special ordered in '73.
If it's a J4000 I think the top GVWR was, what? 7,600? I have it in my TSM at home but it'll be on the VIN tag.

Ok...well they are supposed to send me some more pics. He said he bought it new in '71. I'll let you know what I find out.
Are the T-18s that bolt up to a Buick 350 interchangeable with the ones from the 360s? ie...is the input shaft the same length?

I dont think they are, the Buick does not have the long input shaft and uses a BOP (Buick Olds Pontiac) bellhousing pattern.

The inputs are the same. There is a difference in the Buick bellhousing and the adapter to the tranny. The Buick bell is about 9" and the spacer was 3 something, I can measure those when I get home if required.

I know in 72 it was 8000True and the heaviest J20 was rated 8400.
