I assume this is good. The engine has about 138k on it. I heard that AMC V-8s had poor cam oiling and that lobes tend to wear down. Is this supposed to be through the lifters, or at the cam bearings or other? I do have a lifter tap (slight), so I assume it is poor through the lifters. Any input? Is this a condition that can be remedied at time of rebuild? I know these engines have been raced, so somebody must have an idea on how to improve it.

The info you seek is located here. I could explain it all to you but that would take way to long to write!

If you want an oil improvement kit for both of the prior posts, go here: www.oldcarparts.com. (http://www.oldcarparts.com.) Great place to find AMC engine stuff. Just type in "oil" under search and you will see them. One says "doubles oil to rear bearings" and the other says "oils distributor gear". The article at www.froadin.com (http://www.froadin.com) says July 1998 for the writeup. I think it's actually June 1998, and I have it in PDF format if you want it. Send me an email if you do and I'll send a copy. It's kinda big, but the picture for the oil bypass to the rear bearings is pretty good.

If my Jeep can't get me where I want to go the way it sits, then I need to modify it some more. After all, Jeeps owners can do anything!

Good info guys! I am curious, is it just the main bearings and distributor gear that lacks good oiling? I have heard of cam lobes wearing prematurely. Any idea why this would be? If this is true, would the new roller lifters help alleviate this problem? Thanks!
