i know i am running rich. i pulled the first two plugs and they are covered in soot and carbon. the carb was rebuilt 3 years ago and the motor is 3 months old. there is plenty of power and performance is good. i am getting bout 8mpg. i know the motor can do better with this. i am sure it is in the carb but i don't know where to start. the anti diesel solenoid is not hooked up since the motor rebuild and the power valve was replaced a year ago. two new cto's and egr. i can smell the exhuast at start up and when i am parked.

i am going to check the timing and vaccum hook ups. but as far as idle or float, what is the best order to check them in? i don't want to adjust something that will just make more of a problem.

just for note i have no cat, msd ignition, and the summit cam. thanks

a failing coil can cause the exact same symptoms, before working on the carb,i would eliminate that by borrowing a coil and installing it. a 5 minute job.

Like andy eluded(sp ??) it could be soggy from ignition being
weak (coil, wires, cap, rotor, module ..) or it could be soggy due to carbration
bad power valve, bad vacume line to power valve, sticky choke. ..
Neeed more info to go on to help nail it down better.

my comp crashed so this is the first time i have got on the internet sins i posted. the tfi upgrade was done alst year with all new parts and then the cap and rotor were replaced again when i got the engine rebuilt last month. i have an msd module and no duraspark at all. the weather has been poor here so first good day i will look at the vacuum lines.

there is plenty of get up and go. the motor really hauls. that is why i suspected something in the vauum lines or carb. let me know what you think. thanks

kreb,
In the IFSJA.org files there is an article on how to rebuild your 2150 carb, well at the end of the article it tells you how to set the fuel mixture and idle speed after a rebuild. This should help you adjust your mixture.. good luck!!
