Ratling noise, lots of smock out of tail and no oil pressure.

I don't know what happen, it start blowing smock out of the exhaust, I turned down the radio and heard a ratling noise coming from the motor, and at the same time I'm watching my oil pressure gaige and I'm watching it come down at idle to the point of no pressure, but if I where to give it gas the pressure comes up.

The only thing I had time to do was remove the valve covers to see if anything looks out of place and everything looks good...

And I just passed up an offer for a fuel injected chevy 350, and that's at the junkyard now,.

So if anybody has an ideal about this it would be helpful? Also I have an amc 360 with no emisions if that helps.

Are you sure some one didn't swap in a diesel when you weren't looking? Actually it could be any number of problems. Most are serious and several caused by oil starvation. One of my previous jeeps had an oil pickup problem it starved a bearing which caused a rattle and knock for a couple of weeks then the rod bearing seized which snapped the rod off the crank and sent it through the side of the block.

Sounds like a bearing problem.
