this is the 401 from the J20 i pulled last year. not bad shape. std journals on the crank. std bore on the cylinders. mininmal wear ridge, the piston i removed pushed right out.
typical dumb po stuff-not Spaulding, this motor was in when he got the truck-. 360 flexplate and balancer.various accesories incorrectly/cobbily installed. head bolts were all loose. gaskets looked copper coated, which ain't so bad,but they were trashed from not being properly torqued.wonder why the heads were pulled previously...

Looks like a good one to build, didn't you just build a engine 3 or 6 months ago?

Looks like she sat for a bit Mike. Any idea as to why the #7 piston is all scratched up?
Dare I ask what your plans are for it?:bluelaugh:

i scraped the carbon off #7 to see if there was any oversize indicators stamped into the piston.
had green coolant in it. dunno why it's so nasty in there. it'll get hot tanked though.
cheap fresh-up. will hot tank the block, new cam bearings, lightly deck it too. i have a set of heads off the old 401 that had the cracked block, they were rebuilt previously. will use them, probably have them shaved a little too, help bump the compression a bit. had i not given away my 291C heads i prbably would have used them here.
re-ring it,turn the crank. probably an 8600 cam, maybe with rhoads lifters. 4 bbl intake and a nice edelbrock carb.
Gonna have to burn the yard also...... LOL!
I know you can feel the jealousy Im sending you hmm...and here i though it was just gas.
