The bed on the J-10 is a little less than perfect. It has the typical rust at the seams on the quarter panels and a handful of spots in the floor of the bed that you can see through. I took a little time the other day and cut out an access panel from inside the bed to see how bad the rust was thats eating away the quarters and this is what I found. It is like this on both sides behind the wheel wells and about half that on the front sides. My question is do you think I should do what I could to save the bed or salvage what I can and just get another one. Some factors to weigh in are cost, time, parts availability. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also, if anyone has some pics of a bed worse than mine thats been brought back from the brink would be helpful as well. Thanks!

I plan on saving mine. It has the "starting" of that rust out. Most all the double wall beds will do that eventually. Might as well fix it right.

Try fixing it first. Decent beds aren't the easiest thing to find, and will eventually have the same problem. While youre in there you can also rustproof and add drain holes/fix the bad design so this wont happen again.

I'd say it's worth fixing. Still looks pretty solid considering you're in the humidity capital of the world:D

Got to thinking today, a friend of mine said he say a j truck at the local pull apart a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if its short or long WB but if it fits mine and is in better shape than mine, i could get a hold of that, pull mine slap new one on and fix my original then sell it to someone who may need. Probably stop by there tommorrow and check it out.

Ive always wondered if it was possible to get away from the seam by using a door skin as a patch panel since the body lines are there. Ive never had a j-truck bed to fix up but ive seen much worse ones fixed up than that one.
My brother's father in law has an 83 pickup and that bed was bad off. He replaced the wheelwells and flares due to being very rusty and replaced the panels in front and rear of the flares. The truck is beautiful now and you couldnt tell that it was repaired.

Another for flat bedding it... Not because of how bad it is but just because flatbeds are awesome
Doesn't look that bad. Fix it up.

Fix it, and score the bed for later.

Went to the yard today and everything about the body is trashed on both of the rigs they have out there. One worse than the other but nothing worth pulling so I've determined to buy myself a welder and grinder and go to town in the next two weeks.
