Ok..I've read every post and I need to be clear on somethings before I turn this thing on...First my yellow wire from the Coil (original) that was supposed to go to the Ignition capapcitor is gone..instead the DSPO ran it to the sensor on the Fender in the AC line?? Ok..I don't have this capacitor and

1. I can't find a factory one..is there one I can get from a parts store and which one would it be..specs?

2. My clip that plugs into the new coil only has one pos and one neg and I need two positive..can I just splice the wire before the power goes into the coil or do I have to run the second wire from were the first wire connects at the coil pos?

I really need an answer soon as I am supposed to be on a trip tomorrow with Rita :D :D

If your talking about the capacitor LOOKING thing that connects to the positive coil lead at the coil it is really a radio noise suppressor and you don't need it to run. Many have said that they notice no difference in radio noise without it anyway.

So I should just hook her up and run..If she runs I won't have to worry about frying anything right? There is just so many questions and threads out there about different systems from different years and I don't want to end up stranded somewhere...Thanks.....

I’m doing the TFI upgrade right now, too. Yesterday I went to all the best parts stores and they all confirm the capacitors has been discontinued. Not just for the jeep, but for the fords ignition system I am using stock parts from.

There is a page of capacitors in one of the books at the parts store. Out of 30 different capacitors there were two with the connector that matches my stock 2nd yellow positive wire coming out of the horseshoe coil connector. That would be a starting place.

I’m not going to use a capacitor.

I did the TFI a couple weeks ago and the cap is in the box with all the other old parts.

I put a insulated connector on the second green wire that comes off the new coil (that doesn't seem to be used) and use that to hook up a tach under the hood when I need it.

Found one at my local bone yard....along with a brand new tailgate window moulding! :D :D :D for $5 I'll just hook the used one up for kicks..

Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes..

This place rocks.

how do you guy's like your upgrade? just got done doing mine (5 min ago) and toke it around the block and didn't notice a diff. I'll drive it around town and see if I notice anything. thanks

TC, When I did this upgrade I noticed better idle and cold starting rather than acceleration. Did you upgrade wires, cap, rotor, etc?

FFEJ, If you are in a rush, just splice those two wires with a third piece of wire and a twist cap, then run the third wire to the coil. When you have time, go to a electrical parts house and get a good two-into-one wire connector to replace your three way splice.

I've read a number of posts here regarding the resistor and I don't really understand it but others here say to keep a spare ignition module with you if you don't have the resistor in place.

johnwom: I took it around town and whow it made a big diff.I think around the block wasn't enough for me to tell. I did the whole thing cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs...as for the resistor mine didn't have one on it so I didn't put one on.

JohnI think your talking about 2 different things here. The capacitor is for radio noise supression and I am not sure it is really a capacitor. The RESISTOR is the resistor wire in the harness that limits the voltage to the coil. My 87 runs about 10 volts to the coil. Running without one can heat the ignition module to unacceptable levels.
