I took the GW to the body shop last week to get an estimate on some minor rust repair. The guys that worked there came out and were drooling all over it. So, of course, by the time I get ready to leave, I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'd just completed a TFI upgrade, new plugs, rebuilt carb and redid all the vacuum hoses, so was feeling pretty good about myself.
On the way out of the parking lot, she died on me. After trying to restart it several times, some of the guys helped me push it back into the parking lot. We tried putting a little gas into the carb and it acted like it was trying to start, but just wouldn't. So now, I'm thinking it has to be the fuel pump. Replaced it. Started and ran fine.
So I take it back on Monday to have the body work done. Wed, the guy calls and says its ready to be picked up, but it won't start. When he turns the key, all he gets is "click". The only thing I could think of is that it must be the starter. The battery is almost new, as is the ignition control module, so that was the only other thing I could think of. So I sneak out of work around 3 today and head over to the body shop with a new starter. The whole mechanic thing is fairly new to me, so I was really happy when 30 minutes later I had the new starter installed, and she fired right up.
Maybe I am on my way to figuring these things out.
